Flahavan might well have been included in Appendix F. of Irish Families since it belongs almost exclusively to west Waterford and the adjoining part of Co. Cork. There also are found the variants Flahavin, Flavahan and-in east Cork and west Waterford ——- Flavin. It is not very numerous now, but a century ago Griffith's Valuation recorded 46 householders in Co. Waterford, and three centuries earlier fourteen O'Flahavans of the same locality are to be found in the Elizabethan Fiants.
